Why now? It's good to be back.
Admittedly it took me longer to get this page going to show samples of my work. Like most, Covid-19 really put a damper on plans for me. Instead of having that time to work on my portfolio, I had three children in elementary that needed to be remote for school. That meant I became the at-home IT guru and director of all-day classes. We jumped back and forth between remote school, hybrid school, and finally in-person school with the occasional quarantine periods. I couldn't commit myself to any clients with so much uncertainty in my daily schedules. So for two school years I took a job working at the elementary school. It started off as maintaining the Covid room when children were ill or being sent home to quarantine. As the virus rules changed I had less time devoted to the room. I began to work in the classrooms more. The first year I spent most of my time assisting a teacher that had surgery and wasn't able to move about the class. The next year I worked in the Learning Center with the paraprofessionals helping children with special needs. Most of my time was sitting with these kids in the class to assist where they struggled but also make notations for the others of behavioral issues. I covered for teachers in the classroom and occasionally taught some subjects. And last, but not least, I covered the lunchroom. You don't know noise until you work an hour of lunches with approximately 400 screaming students. I learned how to manage so many different jobs and have a huge amount of appreciation for those working on the public schools. They are all underpaid in my opinion.
Now is the time for me to get back to what I'm best at. I am proficient in InDesign and Photoshop. I used to be more familiar with Illustrator but I haven't had to use it extensively in years. I have a new MacBook Pro and the most up-to-date Creative Suite software. I actually enjoy working on catalogs of text-heavy layouts while balancing beautiful photography. I look forward to familiarizing myself with new clients and coworkers.
